Perhaps there are more optimal methods of human-to-machine auditory interaction than the back and forth conversational approach used in human-to-human contact and to which many voice interfaces aspire. We explored a system which uses the cocktail party effect [wikipedia entry] to allow users to pinpoint important emails quickly.
